fragile [Posted on 2008-09-12] This zapper works great however it is made from the cheapest most brittle plastic imaginable. I have tried different ones and they all are. I ordered five of these. The first time I swung at a fly I clipped the edge of the counter and the zapper shatered into about six pieces. My answer for this is to run a piece of duct tape (split lengthwise for fit) around the entire racket BEFORE you use it. This seems to help the cheap material absorb some of the shock from minor unintended contact however nothing will save this thing if you actually wack it against something.
GREAT! [Posted on 2008-09-20] Have a long history loving 'Racket Zappers' in general. This one:
1. A bit smaller than other brands (head is smaller and handle is shorter). I like it better being slightly smaller and therefore more able to quickly maneuver.
2. NO ZAP SOUND! Love the fact that this one does not make any zap or noise at all. The ones that make a loud Zap really scare my dog.
3. The extra protective screen/Zapping Area does seem not as strong and might let some insects get by/through.
4. Feels more sturdy and less likely to break.
ALL IN ALL = Get the Racket Zapper but if you want a zapping sound or a more powerful electric charge you may want to get one of the other almost identical versions of this product for sale also on amazon for almost the same price. I personally will always go back and buy this one in the future.
How did I live without this? [Posted on 2008-09-25] First, I didn't know these existed. Then I read about them on Amazon and didn't believe the hype but ordered one anyway. It arrived, a bug zoomed by and ZAP I was able to experience the innate and visceral pleasure of watching the critter disappear from my list of annoyances. Then came the flies. Watching them spark and pop is just more pleasure than a man gets to experience in life. What a joy and a wonderful product. Zap away my friends!
Don't buy this [Posted on 2008-09-29] I saw a product like this on vacation, which worked splendidly, and I had to have one. This is not it. I carefully chose one that took D batteries, so it would be a good size, and more powerful, but I received a smaller version that takes double A's. It is useless. Do not bother with it.
bug zapper [Posted on 2008-09-30] Much too fragile. Quit working after a slight bump on desk. Seems to me a device used to swat flying insects should be constructed well enough to withstand reasonable strike force.
