It's supposed to attract ants, right? [Posted on 2008-07-11]
My husband and I moved into our apartment and within days accidentally left out a dog bone. We removed the bone, cleaned, vacuumed, baking soda-sprinkled, vacuumed again, and so on. After a while, the straggler ants started to trickle in, which I expected. So we went and bought some of these bait huts. We put out four: by the crack in the window sill, next to the spot on the carpet where they were crawling randomly up my couch leg, and two other random places near apartment openings.

Wouldn't you know it, the ants ignored the traps? After a week of squishing the little bugs by hand (they actually walked completely around the traps) we finally just sprayed everywhere with indoor ant spray (well-ventilated) and boom, ants were gone. They didn't come back. Threw the useless bait things away.

OH and not only did the bait huts not work, they smell like chocolate. So, I know that the package says not to let kids of pets around them (we were obsessive about keeping the dog away, and you should be too!!), but if for some freak accident your puppy got a hold of one, the ants may not give it a second glance, but I bet your pup will.

Use the five bucks and buy some spray and keep your kids and pets away for a while, or get better poison bait.

I bought these baits a few weeks ago and placed all four against the counter wall. The ants ignore the baits. We have not seen any decrease in the number of ants.

Placed the Raid Ant Bait in the ant trail. The ants did not even try to get in.

Placed Terro right next to Raid and the ants were all over Terro immediatly. Terro works.

These things are truly worthless.

I actually think I saw *more* ants after using them.
