Robotools OK mount, but could be a lot better [Posted on 2007-09-02] This product is used to mount a Robotools, Porter Cable or possibly other laser unit to a wall or ceiling. This mounting unit is made of metal and is designed to be hung from screws or nails driven into a wall, post, joist, etc.
I do have some complaints about the product design of this product. The down rod is attached to an angle bracket by a small single screw, which does not provide the sturdiest support. The down rod is also very short, which makes for compact storage, but allows for very limited horizontal adjustment of the laser unit without moving the mount. The attachment options of the angle bracket are limited with the existing design.
The laser unit is attached to the base plate of the mount by means of a threaded screw through the base plate into the bottom of the laser unit. The base plate and laser then simply slide up and down on the down rod. This base plate is locked into position on the down rod by means of a thumbscrew, no allowances were made for fine horizontal adjustments. The very limited vertical adjustments are by way of another thumbscrew that extends through the bottom of the down rod to touch and push the rod away from the wall or other mounting surface.
This mount is adequate for the purpose it was intended.
Very Good General Purpose Mount [Posted on 2008-03-02] I have the Robo Toolz Laser Mount and think it is terrific for two reasons:
#1 It can be mounted anywhere by clamping the top mounting flange to whatever is available on the job. For example, the Robo Toolz mount can be clamped to the door of the room, or to cabinets, shelving, chairs etc. If the walls are open, there is no reason to use the existing screw holes. Just clamp the top flange to the framing.
#2 The calibrated height adjustment with an eight inch scale and 1/16" increments can be used to make a one step adjustments to position the moveable Laser platform to the correct height.
The black anodized castings used on this Mount are of very high quality with no ragged edges. There is no room for any wobble. The platform to me looks strong enough to support a concrete block,. It is plenty strong enough for the designed purpose.
The Robo Toolz mount has two thumbscrews to attach the mount to a T-Bar ceiling and two for adjustments. The first is to adjust the height of the Laser platform. The second, at the bottom of the height adjustment bar, is to adjust the Laser platform level. This mount uses the same 5/8-11 screw mount as used on laser mount tripods. To use this Robo Toolz mount for Lasers that use the ΒΌ-20 threads, a thread adapter like the PLS Palm Laser Level 5/8"-11 Adapter is needed
