105R --THE Trimmer for me [Posted on 2003-03-11] The other review here is not for this product!!! I agree with the 2-star rating for the 150R. The 105R is a different story!! It has plenty of power for most jobs, is easy to handle, and lasts a long time. The speed spool is great. The curved neck is a must. This is the only string trimmer I really like for most jobs within range of an outlet. Use a 14 guage cord. I have used this model for years, and have not found another (even Stihl) that compares.
This trimmer is pretty good. [Posted on 2003-05-08] This trimmer performs much like a gas powered trimmer--at the cost of one, too. It is pretty good--but pricey. Because is is so expensive, I cannot say it is a "5 star" value. It trims grass well.
A wicked little trimmer [Posted on 2003-08-13] The Ryobi 105R is a powerful electric trimmer, yet light-weight enough to handle with one hand if you have a particularly difficult spot to trim, and it is balanced nicely so there is no back strain as there can be with models that have the motor mounted at the bottom of the trimmer. Like all corded electrics it has the disadvantage of being tied to an outlet; otherwise, it is perfect for trimming around the house. More reliable and easier to start than a gas powered trimmer and just as powerful. It's Consumer Reports highest rated corded trimmer.
speed spool works fine [Posted on 2003-09-22] I was a little hesitant about one reviewer's negative remarks about the speed spool. Turns out you have to read the instructions and learn what the thing will do and won't do. Once I got past the learning curve the thing worked fine.
Electric w/ Gas Power [Posted on 2004-07-19] This trimmer replaced a cheap-o Toro. I have been impressed w/ its power & quality. It doesn't waste any time when it gets to the big stuff! Oh, and no trips to the gas station either.
