Good tool - poor engineering [Posted on 2005-02-09]
I bourght this tool from my local dealer in the UK. As we pay a lot more for the tools (rougly $680 USD) in england i was expecting great things - how wrong was i!!
i used it for about six months then the driving blade wouldn't return into the cylinder so i had to keep pushing it in manualy. i returned the tool and Senco UK who gave me a full refund with not even the option of replacing the tool - i don't know if they are taking them of th marketin the UK but i now run with the DeWalt - what a tool - i know it is a brad nailer but that is the norm hear as most people who do trim use the paslode.
dont waste your money - get the DeWalt!
OK when you need a chordless gun for the job [Posted on 2005-07-12]
I bought this nailer last year for a project. The recycle time is ok, but the nail depth adjustment is abysmal. It also takes both hands on the gun when firing to make sure it does not bounce from recoil. I will be buying a smaller oil-lube compressor and only using this gun when I need to nail something in a hurry after everything is packed up. It's for a weekend hobby person or as a back up when you can't get an air tool to the location or can't take the time to set up the compressor.

Like so many others, I was happy with my AF41 until it stopped working after driving about 2000 nails. The repair shop thinks it is a bad control board and estimate $150 to fix it. A $300 tool should not fail after such little use. I wouldn't recommend it for home use, and it is definately not for the pro.

I bought my Senco a little over two years ago after my brother supposedly lost our air powered finish nailer (which we found several month later) I have used mine periodically for some pretty extensive projects. Now I am not a contractor so it is not being used every day, but I do do a lot of trim work both for myself and friends. I flip houses and use this tool for installing doors, windows and Trim. I have had no problem with the unit whatsoever.
I do have a gripe about the nail depth gauge. I don't know why but it does not seem to be consistant in driving nail depth and the dial does not lock into place so it seem to move on it's own alot which can be frustrating.
Other then that I think this had been a great tool. Of course noww I see the other companies are offering equivalent tools and I have not compared them. At the time I was looking I believe Senco was one of the only companies offering this type of corless finish nailer. I would check out and compare the Dewalt version.
dead senco air free 41 [Posted on 2006-11-30]
purchased a barely used air free 41 from someone i know. i know it only had about 1 - 2 boxes of nails shot through it. i installed 2 doors and trim and then it just quit!!!!! no warning one minute it worked and then it didn't.
i took it to a repair shop and they quoted me more to fix it than buying a new one. the repairman said that the chassis was bad, which is the mechanism that drives the nails. he also told me this has been a common problem, and he has had many of these in for the same problem. he also told me that the factory had been covering this under warranty.
contacted senco and they just played dumb. will never buy another senco product. if i ever buy another tool like this i will definately buy a repair warranty. beware used air free's on ebay.!!!!!!
