The 1980 is the instrument I chose after searching for a few weeks on the internet. It has proven to be a stable and reliable instrument. I thing that I noticed was that Stabila specs are very conservative. I easily met the level's specs by just carefully levelling the unit. I would have preferred an auto levelling device but they were out of my price range.

Although this is a useful little tool, it is not a true rotary laser.
No where in the description of the tool does it mention that
you have to turn the laser head by hand. It only gives you a dot,
not a level line.
The plumb-bob feature is worth the price!
