Almost completely useless [Posted on 2004-10-22] Too small to use for tall baseboard or crown molding. The plastic bends during sawing and the saw cuts into the plastic. The saw is so short that you can only move it back and forth about 2 cm, so each cut takes forever to make. This is a total piece of trash, and will just cause you to go out and spend more money on something that actually works.
Pretty good mitre box [Posted on 2007-05-07] The clamping feature is very nice. It holds the wood securely. It still just feels a little cheap. I would pay more for something a bit more solid if there was one, but I couldn't find one.
Depends on what you're using it for [Posted on 2007-05-14] Overall this a decent mid-sized backsaw if that's what you need. It's alot simpler to use than a full fledged mitre saw(Motorized or otherwise), since you don't have to set up the angles or anything. Very good for making quick cuts. The clamping is also very good but I thought it was a tad confusing the first time(You have to rotate the pegs so they face the wood). Obviously this won't handle large pieces of wood since it's a tenon saw, and you can forget about hardwood, it's just not designed for it.
Overall for the $15 I paid for it I'm satisfied. I got a decent clamp for longer boards, and an easy and accurate way to cut softwood boards, which is what I needed.
You're better off eyeballing the cuts [Posted on 2008-01-29] There's way too much play in the slots. The slots are too wide. The saw, when fully inserted into the slots, can still tilt on multiples axes, so your cut ends up being as straight as you hold it. Also there's a lot of play in the plastic itself--it bends.
It doesn't sit on a flat surface. The plastic cuts. The saw is what you would expect of a freebie thrown in. A disappointment in every respect.
Useful and Cheap [Posted on 2008-07-10] I have many, many saws and several mitre boxes. Although this my least expensive one I find I use this nifty little combination quite frequently.
No, I wouldn't use it for cabinet work, but when I need to do a quick job I find the cam operated clamps and the lip that holds it against the edge of a workbench a real boon. I used it this afternoon while building a chicken coop. I'd buy it for the cams alone and am thinking it might be worth drilling holes in the base of a better quality wood constructed box to use these useful little chaps. On the downside it is flimsy and there is too much slop for a high degree of accuracy, but for the money it really has its uses. Weigh up what for you want to use it; read some of the other reviews and you may decide it's for you!
