Customer Reviews:

Frustrating ordeal [Posted on 2007-05-02]
I bought this laser for 2 tasks. No.1 I wanted a cross line to do floor and wall layouts for tile and I guess it would also be usefull for other level wall layout chores. No.2 I wanted a pulsing laser to use with a detector and grade rod for simple concrete work, footings and piers for decks.
I had problems getting a laser that actually worked from Stanley. The first one was bad and would not turn on. The second unit that I got was paired with the wrong detector (rotary detector not line detector). So I went to the local hardware store and bought a Lasermark 58-ILMXTE(essentially the same product made by the same people) because I needed a laser that day. The lasermark works fine and all of the parts work.
The stanley laser beam also worked with the lasermark detector but at this point I had already decided to return the stanley.
As far as the product itself, the stanley laser did have a bright beam but at 20' it was 1/8 inch wide. The housing for the laser was okay, not as rugged as the lasermark. The lasermark seemed more durable, came to level faster and had a sharper beam at 20' although not as bright as the stanley model. The lasermark beam displays a much wider angle than the stanley. Both were equal when used with a detector. I think for the price the lasermark is a better deal. If I had to buy again I would consider buying separate lasers. One for interior layout, maybe a Hilti PML32 and another rotary laser for exterior work. On a positive note the customer services folks at Stanley were great. They imediately went to the warehouse picked out the same laser I had and walked me through using it and quickly found that I had the wrong detector. Stanley would have got 4 stars if the beam wasn't so wide.
