Insufficient Information! [Posted on 2007-10-23] Toro Blower Vac Replacement Vacuum Bag #51601
When the zipper on the original bag failed, I noted that it was poorly designed and of inferior workmanship. However, I did not want to pitch the blower/vac, which is an excellent machine. I did pitch the bag. Big mistake, since nowhere was I informed that I would need the collar from the old bag when I purchased a replacement. Now I have to order a replacement collar from the manufacturer--or to be more accurate the American front for a Chinese manufacturer--and pay a big shipping charge. SAVE THE COLLAR!
Toro Blower Vac replacement bag [Posted on 2007-11-08] Toro Blower Vac Replacement Vacuum Bag #51601
It is a decent replacement, except for how the bag connects to the vacuum. The old model used a velcro strap, which I found simple to use. This model uses a plastic wire wrap instead. It didn't work well at all. Instead, I picked up a pipe clamp from a hardware store to secure it on instead. Works better.
you'll have to jerry rig this to get it to work. [Posted on 2008-01-07] It comes with a cheap plastic tie to connect the bag to your blower. Once tightened, you can't loosen it. I had to cut it off. Now I have to go to the hardware store and find some way to secure it. What a piece of junk.
Design changes not an improvement [Posted on 2008-06-01] My Toro leaf vac/blower is an older model, so I am more than tolerant of the fact that "things change". The old leaf bag was made of a heavy canvas material. The new one is not as heavy, but adequate. The bag could be made of a fabric that would be less likely to stain, degrade and tear. My old bag used a Velcro strap to attach to the vacuum blower discharge nozzle. The new bag requires a zip-tie to secure. While this new system could be viewed by some to be an improvement, it does require a cutter of some sort to remove, then a new zip-tie with each bag dump. Thus, another tool to keep handy and more objects (zip-ties)to buy and keep up with. Changes here are not particularly improvements in my opinion, just changes, not worse to deal with necessarily, just something different. I am delighted that bags are still available to fit my unit, so no complaints. All-in-all, the Toro has held up very well over several years of use.
