Don't buy from Troy Bilt and don't buy this product... [Posted on 2006-11-10]
I would not recommend purchasing this unit (Troy Bilt 4-cycle Gas Trimmer). I have yet to be able to make it work properly (already returned 2 brand new units for exchange to place of purchase) and the hedge trimmer attachment AND my complete string trimmer are currently in the shop under warranty service waiting for back ordered parts (4 months so far). Troy Bilt Customer Service is of no help, they constantly quote company policy to avoid fixing their equipment. Even though it has a 2-year warranty, you will also not be able to find local service, as the list of warranty locations on the Troy Bilt site are 2-3 years out of date (try calling some of the dealers listed but be ready to hear all the bad things they have to say about Troy Bilt quality or lack of!). When this unit is finally working, I will sell it as soon as possible and buy a real quality hedge trimmer.

WITH MANY..MANY ATTEMPTS COULD NOT GET THIS UNIT STARTED.. SOMETHING SIMPLE ??? PERHAPS BUT.. SENT IT BACK TO AMAZON.. HAD ORDERED THE EDGER ATTACHMENT ALSO AND HAD A DIFFIICULT TIME GETTING AMAZON TO PICK UP BOTH PRODUCTS AS THEY HAD SHIPPED SEPERATELY.. WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE AMAZON..CTS MIAMI, FL.

I bought the 29cc 4-cycle unit from Lowes. It would not start so I returned it for another one. It will not start. Neither one of them would so much as cough or sputter. I have the Troy-Bilt 2-cyle chain saw which starts very easily.

I am thoroughly happy with this unit. If you're looking for a gas powered (no mix) trimmer, this is it. The unit is easy to assemble, and just as easy to start. It is well balanced. I used it with the shoulder strap and cushioned grip handle (both included) and found it easy to control, with no fatigue from vibration. I highly recommend this trimmer.

Works OK, but beware of attachments... [Posted on 2007-05-11]
I originally bought this trimmer 2 years ago. It worked great the first several times, but shortly thereafter the shaft quit turning. The problem was that the receiver end had stripped out and left me with a rounded hole where it should have been square. Luckily i convinced my local homestore to take it back and give me another one. This second one has been working well, but the engine is getting harder to start and doesn't want to rev up to maximum RPMs; maybe the gas is old. Overall, it gets the job done, but its not a brilliant piece of engineering work.
