YUK [Posted on 2004-04-09] I do not know if this is the troy garden tiller I have or not. But... my husband bought me a Troy and it was: hard to start, loud, jerky. I really hated it.
Looks to be a good edger choice... [Posted on 2004-05-28] I am focusing on this edger as the best edger in the MTD lineup. Consumer Reports just reviewed several (three literally) edgers and rated the MTD Yard Machines A25-A250 model (3.5hp, $199) as its top choice for dedicated edger. This Troy-bilt edger (4.5 hp B&S) appears to be the best of the MTD Corp choices (Troy-bilt, Yard Machines, Yard Man & MTD), convincing blade design, and with modest trencher capability. I did not want a Tecumseh powered OPE as they are noisey, thirsty and environmentally unfriendly. Looked at Sears models...they look cheesy. I am aware of Little Wonder edgers, premium lawn-garden products, but they start at $400 (3.5hp B&S IIRC).
Looks Good -- Hard to Start -- Runs Poor [Posted on 2004-06-01] I purchased this Edger Because of the TROY-BILT name. I was mistaken. This edger looks great but it ends there. This Troy-Bilt edger/trencher is hard to start, lacks power even though it is rated at 4.5HP and runs rough. If I could do this over, this Troy-Bilt would not be my choice for my edger.
